Station: [9] Introducing the paving stone. (Origin of granite)

If you “bite on granite” with someone, you will meet with resistance. Granite is one of the hardest types of rock in the world. At first glance, it is obvious that this rock is made up of different crystals. We see light, beige or white patches, gray, sometimes sand-colored and black. Granite was formed...

He, there! Wait a minute! That wasn't agreed. This is my territory. This is where I lead!

Oh, oops, sorry! I didn't see you there. - I thought I'd get started so that our visitors don't have to wait...

Think! Thinking! Typical of people. They're always thinking. But we had an agreement. And that is: it's my turn now.

It's all right... You know how much we appreciate having a real cobblestone as a museum employee. Just start now, I'll go to the garden and wait there until it's time for me to move on.

So. Sorry. I'm a bit grumpy. But as a stone, you just have a rather tough demeanor. As you know, the Königshain stone works mainly cut paving stones. And before we take a closer look at these granite chunks, I'll just ask: do you actually know what makes a solid paving stone?

Yes, there you are looking... What do I hear? - Cube shape? Well, that's something. So, our size is set at four to a whopping 30 centimetres. We're what's known as outdoor paving, i.e. for paths, or paving stones, as they're still called today. Today, paving stones are also made from man-made stones, but the granite paving stone is a natural stone. And that makes this room just right. Because here you can see how granite is formed in nature.
