The museum of the city of Gladbeck is situated in the historic manor house and gatehouse of the water castle Wittringen ( recreational area Wittringen), located close to the A2 / B 224. With over 400 square meters of exhibition space and impressive exhibits, scenic presentations and audiovisual media, the permanent exhibition illustrates the geographical and historical development of the northern Ruhr area using Gladbeck as an example. The outstanding objects include the skeleton of an Ice Age bison, Neolithic burial urns, medieval documents and farming tools as well as exhibits from the history of mining and modern urban and settlement history. The history of National Socialism in Gladbeck is also covered, as is the period since 1945.
