A Railway Link for Frickingen @museum.de

We’ve already briefly mentioned the building of the railway line. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the Salem Valley Railway provided the initial impetus for commercial fruit growing in Frickingen and the valley as a whole. The railway was completed in 1905 and provided an enormous boost to the sale of fruit. It meant that far greater amounts of fruit could be rapidly dispatched and sold.

For Frickingen, fruit became a genuine export success. Local produce was sent to all parts of Germany, and even as far as Italy.

However, everything changed in May 1971 – the Salem Valley Railway ceased to exist, and the section of the line from Salem to Frickingen was shut down.
