Station: [36] Renaissance
“You obviously know that it is impossible to stick your head through the sky at the end of the world and look into space. However, the picture is still very beautiful and shows how curious the people of Rutger’s time were. Nowadays, we call that time the “Renaissance”, meaning rebirth. In this case, it refers to the memory of the ancient Greek and Romans, their languages, their ideas and art. All these things were rediscovered. The winds of change swept through Europe and gave new life to the arts of painting and architecture. The scientists started to rethink how the world worked and brave men embarked on their expeditions. Christoph Columbus, who I am sure you have heard of, was such a man. He wanted to find a new route to India and managed to discover America by accident.”
