Station: [53] Decay
"Sic transit gloria mundi" - as it was already said in Latin: "Thus passes the glory of the world." The same thing happened to castle Horst. The subsoil in this place was unsuitable for such a huge complex: The muddy and sandy Emscher brook would have required massive foundations, which were not utilised. That was a mistake: In the 19th century, the towers collapsed and were demolished, affecting other adjacent parts of the building. Today, only one wing of the castle remains, as well as a historical room and, here in the new museum building, some scattered individual parts: a wall painting, the remains of a fireplace or a ceiling construction - which you could see in all their splendour on the other side of the wall. But even if the former buildings no longer exist today - the history of castle Horst is still present!”
