Station: [31] Horse's Head
“For the wild horses, true torment often only started after being captured. The freedom-loving creatures tore at the ropes around their necks. However, their resistance was in vain after the so-called “twitch” had been pulled over their nostrils. A true instrument of torture. The more the horse resisted, the tighter the twitch became. The insides were studded with spikes, causing the animals enormous amounts of pain. The only option for the horse was to hold still. Incidentally, this rough approach caused many a person a guilty conscience even then; this led to the twitch being redesigned to be significantly less painful for the animals.”
