Station: [16] Magdeburg Ship Lift
The Magdeburg ship lift has been in operation since 1938 in Magdeburg Rothensee. It connects the Elbe with the 18 meter higher Mitteland canal. The technology of this lift is special, because it doesn’t work with counterweights, but floats instead. These floats are located in a 70 meter deep shaft. Do you see the yellow mark on the floor around the model? This is how large these shafts are.
