Station: [29] Karin Sander, Paradise 231, 2013

It seems as if the famous painting The Luncheon on the Grass by Édouard Manet could have inspired this idea to embed ciricles of artificial turf at seven places in the Park for KölnSkulptur #7, sites where one might feel inclined to linger. Karin Sander has designated the spots that invite you to sit down and rest. The manufacturers of such artificial turf have found many poetical names for their products. The choice of which artificial lawn to enlist for KölnSkulptur #7 was decided by this product's name of Paradise. A name that links it to one of the oldest definitions of a garden, that of an out-of-the-ordinary place. At the same time the industrial mimesis active here plays with the thought that such a paradise has long been lost and is only expressible in words. Karin Sander seeks to lend this idealized concept a voice via perfectly circular shapes. One of the seven pieces has kept it's place in the park.
