Description

The Museum St. Wendel is located in the Mia Münster House above the city library. Its permanent exhibition on the art and cultural history of St. Wendel features works by the painter Mia Münster (1894–1970) and prominent figures from St. Wendel in the late 18th and 19th centuries. Among them are pastel portraits by Nikolaus Lauer (1753–1824) and his students, the composer Philipp Jakob Riotte (1776–1856), Duchess Luise of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld (1800–1831), and the city´s namesake, Saint Wendelin. The exhibition also provides fascinating insights into topics such as contemporary fashion, portrait painting, the transition to photography, and the technique of bronze casting. The media station “Rad der Zeit” (Wheel of Time) offers a chronological overview of the city´s history. Additionally, four rotating exhibitions each year are dedicated to contemporary art.
