Description

Unmittelbar am Flüsschen Anger gelegen und eingebettet in einen alten englischen Landschaftspark befindet sich eine der ältesten erhaltenen Industrieanlagen in Deutschland: die Baumwollspinnerei Cromford in Ratingen. 1783/84 von dem Wuppertaler Kaufmann und Unternehmer Johann Gottfried Brügelmann gegründet, gilt sie heute als erste vollmechanische Baumwollspinnerei auf dem europäischen Kontinent. Fast vollständig ist die frühindustrielle Anlage aus dem späten 18. Jahrhundert erhalten: die fünfstöckige „Hohe Fabrik“ und das spätbarocke Herrenhaus Cromford – heute beides Gebäude des LVR-Industriemuseums, die „Alte Fabrik“, die schlichten Arbeiterwohnungen, das Kontor und das Radhaus, das einst das Wasserrad beherbergte.
