Station: [15] Feodora Library

You’ve already met Princess Feodora. She lived from 1807 to 1872 and was an older half-sister of Queen Victoria. This small library from the Biedermeier era was built around 1820 from designs by court architect Johann Gottfried Klinsky. In 1828, at the age of 21, Feodora married Prince Ernst the First and came to live at Langenburg Castle. The library that houses her book collection was named after her.

The busts and paintings from the Biedermeier period show relatives of the House of Hohenlohe. The largest and most prominent of the paintings features Princess Feodora and her daughter Adelheid.

In the showcase, there’s a collection of painted cups and a series of Russian plates from St. Petersburg, which are thought to date from 1850.

The square piano made in England is especially handsome. The instrument was actually once played by the Austro-Hungarian composer Franz Liszt.
