Station: [14] Frickingen – one Community, three Museums

The Tinkerers’ Workshop Museum, the Lake Constance Museum of Fruit and the Bark Mill Tannery Museum – together, they give the village of Frickingen the status of a Three Museum Community. All three museums can be explored with audio guides and are supported by the Bernadette and Josef Maier Foundation.

And yet Frickingen, with its hamlets of Altheim and Leustetten, is one of the smaller municipalities in the Lake Constance district. It only has around 3,000 inhabitants and covers an area of 26 square kilometres – ten square miles. But it features several places of interest and can rely on the special commitment of the support workers at its three museums – most of whom are volunteers. All that makes this officially approved resort town unique.

If you’d like to see more of Frickingen, we recommend the Apple Loop Trail, where you can find out all about orchard fruit and enjoy the wonderful local countryside. Depending on your preference, it can be five and a half, or six and a half kilometres long – equivalent to just over three, or four and a half miles. If you want to delve even deeper, you can even walk the entire length of the trail, which is marked with an apple emblem on a yellow background. That would be 12 kilometres – or seven and a half miles.

Do enjoy exploring our three museums and strolling around the cultural landscape that has evolved here!
