Station: [11] Postal Receipts

M: Postcards, stamps and postal stationery. You can find a whole selection of these in this display case. They come from a large private collection.

F: The display includes a picture postcard showing Bruchsal railway station. The photograph dates from around 1900. On the back of the card is a five-pfennig Reich postage stamp with a portrait of Germania. The stamp was in use between 1900 and 1922.

M2: Anyone who imagines that the colourised postcard was sent as a holiday greeting from Bruchsal is mistaken. The situation is much more prosaic. The message concerns a life insurance policy, and the sender is asking his daughter to submit the policy to the insurance company as quickly as possible.

M: As regards the postal system, Bruchsal railway station is an interesting subject. The city was connected to the Baden mainline railway network on the 10th of April, 1843. The route ran from Heidelberg to Karlsruhe. The train served not only as a means of transport for travellers, it also carried the mail. This system gradually replaced post boys on horseback and mail coaches.
