Station: [121] I am the bread

Jacob, the father of the twelve tribal fathers of Israel, blesses his son Asher with the words: "Bread, fat, royal delicacies". In doing so, he wishes him to have enough to live on so that he can afford to buy fat bread, i.e. bread with oil, and that he can offer his guests delicacies that taste like royalty. When Jesus takes the bread as the last sign of his life and distributes it with the words: "My body", then what is handed down in another Bible passage becomes clear: 'It is my life that I give you to eat.
