Station: [902] The Scholjegerdes Farm
M: They were called Schumacher, Behlen, Schröder, Hots and Scholjegerdes – the owners of the handsome farmstead on the edge of Bad Zwischenahn, halfway to Kayhausen.
F: The history of the farm can be traced back to 1681, when Gerd Schumacher, who later became a postman and customs officer, purchased a piece of land where he planned to build a small house. Within nine generations, the farming estate developed into an impressive complex that included a farmhouse, barns and stables.
M: From the 1880s onwards, a total of four generations of the Scholjegerdes family lived here and managed the farm. Ultimately, the very elderly brothers Franz and Georg Johann Scholjegerdes decided to leave the property to the Ammerland Farmhouse Local History Society – on condition that it was restored and maintained as a working business.
Extensive building work on the listed farmhouse began in September 2016, and the attractively furnished restaurant was opened in June 2017.
F: Have you ever dined in a "Swienstall" – a pigsty? In the bright, lovingly decorated rooms, you'll constantly be finding little reminders of centuries-old farming traditions. Hospitality and quality are the hallmarks of what's on offer. From organic eggs to vegan-certified ketchup, home-made tea bread and jams made to their own recipes, all the way to eels from the local lake – everything served at the Scholjegerdes-Hof is selected and served with care and ecological awareness.
