Station: [110] Barnberg Chapel
M: For many, this is the most beautiful place in all of Mögglingen: Barnberg Chapel.
F: It was consecrated in September 1958 as "Maria vom Loskauf der Gefangenen" – "Our Lady of Ransom". The benefactors were Helmut Waibel and his mother Amalie. They had the small church built in memory of Amalie's brother, who went missing during the Second World War. The name Barnberg comes from the name of the meadow on which the chapel stands.
M: In 1994, Helmut Waibel finally donated the chapel to what was then the Schwarzhorn Region of the Roman Catholic Schoenstatt movement. Four years later, it was renamed the Barnberg Schoenstatt Region – and from then, on the small chapel was at its centre, both in faith terms and geographically. That's because it stands at the intersection between the pilgrimage sites of Hohenrechberg and Schönenberg near Ellwangen. The building was remodelled and refurbished in the year 2000.
F: Originally, a simple wooden cross adorned the chapel's interior. Today it stands outside, as a field cross on the right of the building. The chapel itself now features a beautiful Altar of Our Lady. The veneration of the Virgin Mary is very significant within the Schoenstatt Movement, and that explains the chapel's name: "Maria Königin des befreiten Menschen" "Mary Queen of Humanity Unbound". Every Sunday, a prayer service is held at 3 pm. A Covenant Mass is celebrated on the first Monday of each month.
