Station: [2] Park Exhibits

Nice to see you stayed with us – because the park surrounding the Metal Roofers' and Coppersmiths' Museum is a little gem in its own right, with its own attractions.

At the front by the road, for instance – where three slender, quirky statues made of stainless steel and brass welcome visitors to the museum. They represent: Euphrosyne, Thalia and Aglaia... in other words: "the three Graces". They were created by the artist Olaf Taeuberhahn, who was based here in Lower Franconia. Born in Berlin, Taeuberhahn arrived in Würzburg as a youngster, and I believe we can say he never regretted it. He read philosophy and art history at university in Würzburg and then attended the academy of art in Munich. But he spent most of his life in Gambach, right here in Karlstadt. Towards the end of his life, Taeuberhahn was awarded the cultural prize of Lower Franconia, which honours public figures – I quote – "who are connected to Lower Franconia by birth, life or work, in recognition of their significant cultural work."

So it's a matter of honour that his sculptures have been given pride of place in front of the museum!

And where it says MUSEUM in big letters, an actual museum is waiting for us, which is why we're going inside now. Come along and join us!
