Station: [12] Mobile Gutter Scaffolding

If you were wondering why Thalmayer's wife was so desperately worried – this is the kind of thing she had in mind. Because the tinsmith's work not only involved designing, making and installing gutters, but if necessary, also cleaning or painting them. That was what the gutter scaffolding was for – except that it was nothing more than an unsecured bench. The scaffolding was hooked on to the gutter. Then the tinsmith sat down on the plank, moved along the wall of the house as required and carried out his work. All in all: a genuinely risky business!
