Station: [19] Room 10: Wedding Venue

"Therefore let all who enter into an everlasting bond – choose carefully where they’d like to tie the knot" – an apt motto for this romantic wedding venue. Tucked beneath the roof of this old half-timbered building, it’s considered one of the most beautiful in all of Baden-Württemberg. Since the museum opened in September 2011, almost 50 couples a year have exchanged vows in here.

The building was erected in 1711. The best place to appreciate the timber-framing is up here, in the roof space, where the beams have been exposed. The gable walls were built using oak beams, with the timber coming from oak trees in Wiernsheim Forest. Fir trees were used for the interior beams, while the pegs for the joints were made of beech wood.

The work of art in the right-hand corner of the anteroom is also made of wood. It was created by an unknown artist from the Black Forest, whether male or female, we don’t know. Their names are sadly unknown. The piece represents the Earth and the sphere surrounding it. It’s made of driftwood and is a perfect fit for our museum. That’s because the artists gathered the driftwood and assembled it by joining pieces that happened to fit together. It’s the same principle applied by Rolf Scheuermann as he searched for coffee grinders the world over – and brought them all together in one place – here in our Museum of Coffee Grinders.

Which sadly brings us almost to the end of your tour. Please make your way downstairs to the café, where we’ll meet you one more time.
